To be honest, Bruno Mars isn't really my type of favorite singer. Although he has a great voice, but I just don't see what's special from him. For me, Bruno Mars is just a man who knows how to sing, that's all. I spent 500k IDR for the ticket after two of my close friends asked me to join them. At that time I didn't know why I'd do that, but at least I thought it would be great to spend some quality time with them. After all, it's my first concert.
The concert was held in Istora Senayan, Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta. We had tickets for three seats on the tribune section. Around 7 pm, the concert started without opening acts from other artists. Bruno himself came out playing drums as the opening act. The Other Side was the first song he performed by singing and playing electric guitar. From what I saw on the festival section, the crowd was crazy. While up from the tribune section people just went calm singing along to any song Bruno performed.
When it came to Just the Way You Are, the stadium gone wild, because, well, it's the most popular song of him. Bruno even spent seven minutes alone to perform the song that it felt endless! He made the crowds even crazier by shouting: "Aku cinta kamu!" ('I love you' in Bahasa Indonesia). He said that it was his first trip to Indonesia, so it had been very special for him. He even promised to be back very soon.
What I like from Bruno's performance was how he interacted with the crowds. It's like he wanted the whole stadium to really enjoy the moment and have fun. He repeatedly called on the people in every section. I think Bruno Mars is a really great performer.
Despite not being really psyched for the concert, it was fun. The setlist included most of his favorited songs, such as Grenade, Just the Way You Are, Marry You, Lazy Song, Nothing on You, and also Count on Me. And, yes, most of them are up-beat songs that rocked out the crowds. My most favorite part of the show is when Billionaire and Billie Jean (by Michael Jackson) were sung, and we sang along to it while jumping excessively. Both of the songs are my favorites! And to see Bruno performing the 80's song kinda reminded me of the good ol' day Jacko. Turns out he is a wonderful talented guy.
After Just the Way You Are, Bruno and the band left the stage, and the stage lights dimmed. The crowds then thought it was the closing and requested an encore. "We want more! We want more!," we shouted repeatedly. It suddenly became an endless chants from the whole stadium. Bruno and the band then back to the stage, lightings were back and even more festive. They performed Runaway Baby and made the stadium rocked again. After that, the show was really over.
For a concert first-timer, it's a fun experience. I'm not a really fan of Bruno Mars, but I had so much fun. I hope someday I would get to see great live performance like this.
